Thicknessing the Timber — Precision in Every Piece

Nathan, SUNSET’s most experienced team member, operating the SCM S630 thicknessing planer in our Sunshine workshop.

Using our SCM S630 thicknessing planer, each component is machined to the precise thickness required for the job. The straightened face created during the previous stage provides the reference, allowing the opposite face to be machined parallel and producing a consistent thickness along the full length of the timber.

The aim is to achieve the required dimensions while retaining as much material as possible. We do not remove timber unnecessarily; each piece is assessed and machined according to what the finished component requires.

Consistency at this stage is essential. Window and door components must work together accurately, and uniform thickness provides the dependable foundation needed for profiling, jointing and assembly.

By the time the timber leaves the thicknesser, it is straight, square and accurately dimensioned—ready to move into the next stage of manufacturing.
